Monmouth County · Where your lawn starts

Grown to a standard.
Laid in Monmouth.

Every lawn we install is grown to the Sod Squad Standard: a tall fescue blend, grown at least 9 months, cut the morning of your install, with no plastic netting.

One grass, chosen on purpose.

We install a single tall fescue blend. It pairs the drought toughness of fescue with the deep color people expect from bluegrass, which suits Monmouth yards from the Route 9 corridor out to the inlet.

Roots that reach down — four to six inches deep, so a dry July does not wipe it out
Comfortable near the ocean — shrugs off the salty breeze in Manasquan, Brielle and Wall
Holds under big trees — the grower’s word is that it holds even beneath heavy canopy
Stays a deep green — thick turf that keeps its color as the season wears on
Built for backyards that get used — cookouts, ball games and the dog’s favorite loop
Nothing to snag the mower — mesh-free rolls, so no plastic works its way to the surface

Why fresh-cut matters more up here.

Our crews bring it to Freehold, Middletown, Howell, Marlboro, Holmdel, Colts Neck, Wall, Manasquan and Brielle, plus the Bayshore towns and the rest of the county.

01

Three seasons of growth

Each field is fed, mowed and given time to knit into dense turf. Nothing gets lifted early to fill an order.

02

Harvested that morning

Cut grass begins to decline as soon as it leaves the soil. Your rolls come up the day of your job, so they travel north while they are still at their best.

03

Down before it can dry out

The crew lays the rolls the same day they reach your Monmouth yard, then presses every seam tight with a 300 lb roller.

What the standard makes possible.

Advice for laying it yourself.

Putting the grass down yourself? These are the habits we swear by. Follow them and your new lawn has a far better shot.

Get the ground ready first — pull the old grass, rake the soil smooth, then spread roughly 30 lbs of pulverized lime and about 10 lbs of high-nitrogen starter fertilizer for each 1,000 sq ft before any sod arrives
Water early in the day — aim for around ¾ inch each time, measured with an empty tuna can, then ease back to every 2 or 3 days once it takes hold
Leave the mower in the shed — stay off it until the first cut, about 21 to 30 days after install, and keep the blade high
Stay ahead of grubs — treat in spring and again in September so they never get to the roots
Feed it as summer ends — a September feeding builds roots that show up as a thicker lawn the next spring
