The five things that move your price

Listed from biggest effect to smallest.

01How many zones

This matters most. A zone is one valve, one wire run and one group of heads. A front-yard system stays near the low end of the range. A whole property, front and back, lands near the high end.

02Yard size and layout

More square feet means more heads. Layout counts even more. Planting beds, trees, tight corners and skinny side yards all need extra heads so nothing dries out.

03Water pressure

Pressure sets how many heads one zone can run. Strong pressure means fewer zones. Weak pressure means more zones, and each one adds a valve and cost.

04What the pipe crosses

Open lawn goes quick. Getting under a patio, path or driveway takes boring, and that shows up as its own line on your estimate.

05The timer

We install a Hunter Hydrawise Wi-Fi timer that you run from your phone. Its weather features only work once they are turned on in the app, and we show you how.

What comes with it

One price for the full system. No add-on list after the fact.

Zones and heads set out in person — laid out on your yard so the whole lawn gets water
Toro heads and valves — with the wiring run to each zone
Hunter Hydrawise Wi-Fi timer — installed, programmed and shown to you
Trenching and boring — including under hard surfaces when needed
Backflow protection — put in to code
A full test before we go — each zone run, each head adjusted

Why bigger sod jobs come with irrigation

New sod has short roots. For its first few weeks it needs steady water every day, and nobody can drag a hose around a big Monmouth County yard that often in July. A lawn that dries out in that window does not bounce back. That is why any sod job over about 1,500 square feet is done with working irrigation, whether that is your current system or a new one we install with the lawn.

Putting both in together also saves money. The ground is open, the crew is already there, and the lawn is watered right from day one. Planning both? See our sod installation page, or get a fast number from the pricing calculator. If a patio or walkway is also on your list, our sister company Ocean County Hardscapes builds them. Run the sprinkler lines before the pavers go down and you skip boring under them later.

Sprinkler cost questions

What does a new sprinkler system cost in Monmouth County?
Most new zoned systems for a Monmouth County home come in between $2,850 and $3,950 installed. Where you land depends mostly on how many zones the yard needs. A front lawn alone sits near the bottom. A full front and back with more heads sits near the top. We price your system after we see the property, and the written estimate is the price you pay.
Why do two systems cost different amounts?
Zones drive it. Each zone gets its own valve, its own wire and its own set of heads. After that comes the size and shape of the yard, because beds, trees and tight side yards take extra heads. Water pressure matters too: weaker pressure means fewer heads per zone, so more zones. Last is anything the line has to pass under, like a walkway or driveway, which means boring instead of trenching.
Does new sod need a sprinkler system?
Once a lawn is over about 1,500 square feet, yes. A hose cannot keep that much new sod wet through a Monmouth summer, and sod that dries out before it roots does not come back. So on bigger sod jobs we require irrigation. Either your existing system checks out, or we put one in as part of the project.
Can you put sprinklers in an existing lawn?
Yes, we do it all the time. Lines go in through narrow cuts that close up fast, and we bore under hard surfaces when the run calls for it. If you are also replacing the lawn, doing both at once costs less, since the ground is already open.
What brands do you install?
Toro heads and valves, run by a Hunter Hydrawise Wi-Fi timer that you control from your phone. We lay the heads out on site, on the ground, so every part of the lawn gets covered.
Do you do spring turn-ons?
Yes. A turn-on with a full check of the system is $150. If we find a repair, we quote it first and only do the work once you say yes.
How long is the install?
A day or two for most homes. When sod is part of the same job, the sprinklers go in first, so the new lawn gets water the day it is laid.
What warranty comes with a new system?
Every new system we install carries two years on parts and labor. That covers heads, valves, the timer, pipe and fittings. If a part fails or our work is the cause, we fix it at no charge and there is no service-call fee for a warranty visit. The makers of the heads and timer add their own warranties on top.
